Phrase


What is Phrase?

Phrase is a group of words that does not have finite verbs. Therefore, the form of phrase mainly consists of infinite verbs.

  • I help my mother cooking
  • I am so glad to find this website
  • John sit on the chair

 

There are mainly 6 types of Phrase

  1. Infinite Phrase -- The phrase which mainly consists of the infinitive verbs.
  2. Participal Phrase -- The phrase which mainly consists of participle.
  3. Gerundial Phrase -- The phrase which mainly consists of gerund.
  4. Prepositional Phrase -- The phrase which mainly consists of preposition.
  5. Absolute Phrase -- The phrase which has complete meaning by itself.
  6. Appositive Phrase -- The group of nouns which use as an adjuective only.

The 6 types above are sometimes make us confuse. Therefore, we can also group the phrase into 3 types as below.

    2. Gerundial Phrase

    1. Infinitive Phrase
    2. Participial Phrase
    3. Propositional Phrase
    4. Appositive Phrase
  3. Adverb Phrase
