If you don't know how to pronounce a word use an online dictionary. There you will be able to listen to native speakings saying the word.

For example - http://www.thefreedictionary.com/thorough

It has both the British and American pronunciation.

These dictionaries are better than nothing, but they are not ideal. One of the most challenging things about English is the rhythm of sentences, including vowel reduction, word linking and consonant blending. However, these do not show up when listening to single words. It's more useful to use dictations and listen to whole stories in English. I know that it's not as easy as single words, but it's much more useful in the long run.

Teacher Joe, I fully agree with you. To some extent dictionaries help us master pronunciation; but, when it comes to making conversations or improving fluency, it becomes impractical to pause at every word and refer to the dictionary.
When I conduct the I Speak You Speak English classes online on wiziq, I show videos and play audio clips in the class. The students are quick at picking up the Conversational style of the speaker. It works much better than opening the Dictionary every time!
