What is Phrase?
Phrase is a group of words that does not have finite verbs. Therefore, the form of phrase mainly consists of infinite verbs.
- I help my mother cooking
- I am so glad to find this website
- John sit on the chair
There are mainly 6 types of Phrase
- Infinite Phrase -- The phrase which mainly consists of the infinitive verbs.
- Participal Phrase -- The phrase which mainly consists of participle.
- Gerundial Phrase -- The phrase which mainly consists of gerund.
- Prepositional Phrase -- The phrase which mainly consists of preposition.
- Absolute Phrase -- The phrase which has complete meaning by itself.
- Appositive Phrase -- The group of nouns which use as an adjuective only.
The 6 types above are sometimes make us confuse. Therefore, we can also group the phrase into 3 types as below.
